Winter is here in NYC and with the frigid temperature comes dry skin. Not only is dry skin unsightly, it can be uncomfortable and even painful. Below, the Parlor Beauty Squad shares their favorite tips and tricks for defending against the effects of the winter weather on our dermis.

Drink a lot of water! There are countless potions and lotions which can help restore moisture to the skin on the surface, but it’s important to remember that we must hydrate our skin from within, not just topically. Drinking the right amount of water for your height and weight every day is extremely beneficial in improving the texture and appearance of your skin. In the winter, be extra sure to keep up on staying hydrated!
*Extra tip: Use a refillable water bottle to be kind to your body and the Earth!
Cleanse with cool water! This is a hard one for some people, but using cooler temperatures of water on your face and body helps the skin retain more moisture. This is especially helpful during the cleansing process as the detergents in many body and face washes strip the skin of its natural moisture barrier.
Moisturize right out of the shower! When you take a shower (even with cool water) your pores are opened up and in the best state to receive moisture. Place a rich body creme or lotion just outside the tub to remind you to quench your skin’s thirst before getting dressed.
Exfoliate! Dry skin has the tendency to peel and flake, causing irritation and making it difficult to apply foundation to the skin and lipstick to the lips. Exfoliating is a great way to remove dead and dry skin and create a soft canvas for makeup. Be sure to rinse with cold water and apply moisturizer after pat drying.
We hope some of these methods help you to survive this winter season with a gorgeous, glowing complexion and soft, supple skin!
